Our work
Why did we start this project? (Problem statement):
In densely populated areas of Bangkok, youth face significant challenges due to a lack of accessible, healthy outlets for physical activity and engagement. Excessive gaming, harmful activities, and poor health outcomes have become prevalent, with 20-30% of Thai children addicted to mobile phones, spending an average of 35 hours per week on screen time (ThaiHealth Watch). Moreover, the average Bangkok resident must travel 4.5km to reach their nearest green space, nine times higher than the WHO standard (UDDC). This stark lack of public parks and positive environments leaves many youth vulnerable to negative influences, including drug use and social isolation.
Boxgym seeks to address these challenges by creating a model gym that will not only offer a physical space for exercise but also foster a sense of community and belonging. Our mission is to provide an alternative to the negative behaviours plaguing Bangkok’s youth, empowering them through structured, healthy activities that promote well-being. Through fitness and community engagement, we aim to inspire healthier lifestyles and offer a blueprint for similar initiatives in other underserved neighbourhoods.

What we do?
At Boxgym, we’re focused on creating a sustainable gym model that can be replicated in underserved areas throughout Bangkok. Our immediate goal is to establish a flagship gym—a “winning formula” that proves the concept, providing a safe space for physical fitness, mental well-being, and community connection. Once this model is in place, we plan to scale it, fundraising to expand Boxgym into other densely populated neighbourhoods. Through our work, we aim to build positive, accessible spaces that offer alternatives to harmful influences and inspire healthier, more active lifestyles citywide.
